Heaven On Earth?

I love working in Philly. I've had some of the most satisfying theater experiences here working at Philadelphia Theatre Company and now I am repeating that good fortune here at 11th Hour Theatre Company. On top of that it's a great city to eat in! Once, friend and frequent collaborator, Sherri Edelen was asked in an interview what she loved most about working in Philly and she said, "You can eat so much good food here!" It was only this trip that I was introduced to the wonders of Green Eggs Cafe. First of all their philosophy regarding food and the environment is great. And I quote:

"Here at Green Eggs CafĂ© we value people and sustaining life on this planet. Green Eggs is unlike conventional restaurants because we have a commitment to doing our part for the environment. We are dedicated to serving high quality food at a low cost. We participate in buying fresh products locally which supports merchants in the area and in turn, so do you. Our herbs and spices are grown in house on the rooftop garden.  At Green Eggs we recycle all paper products, aluminum, glass and plastics. All food and organic waste is composted and also not put to waste. We prohibit the use of all Styrofoam products and plastic bottled beverages. All take-out containers are biodegradable and are made from corn, plant materials, and sugar (which looks like plastic- but we assure you is not).  By dining at this establishment you are contributing to a minimal waste environment. Although you will not find any green eggs and ham on our menu, you will find a serving of eco- friendly fare every time you dine with us."

And the bottom line is that the food is unlike anything you've ever eaten. I mean where else can you get Creme Brulee French Toast or  Peanut Butter Crunchy French Toast or Red Velvet Cake Pancakes. (!!!) AND they also have specials each week. AND if you order a muffin, you might wait a bit for it because... They go back and make it for you right there. Check out the regular menu below.

I think it might just be heaven on earth.
