Getting ready for...
...the Signature Theatre Open House.
Above: Stephen Gregory Smith, Evan Casey, and Tracy Olivera going over the opening to act 2 of The Boy Detective Fails with music director Gabe Mangianti for the Signature Season Highlights Concert, one of the many events happening at Signature's yearly Open House.
I first directed at Signature back in 1998 in the Garage, and The Boy Detective Fails will be the 9th show I have directed for the theatre. To have worked at the garage and to now see not only how beautiful the new theater is but to see how it has literally transformed a neighborhood is pretty extraordinary. Eric is rightfully called the Mayor of Shirlington and to see the Open House each year... well... the number of people that shows up is extraordinary. I haven't been down here for the event since its first year and I'm sure it's gotten even more popular. Let's just hope that the heat doesn't keep people away.
Speaking of the heat-- as excited as I was to come down here to work on the show, I was also dreading the heat. But... With every building I walk into having central air, it's far more bearable than NYC would have been- picture me in my bedroom back home wrapped around my window a/c. Just another reason be grateful for this project and for Signature.
