Old Friends

I'm directing a revival of Irwin Shaw's 1936 anti-war play Bury the Dead for The Transport Group in the Fall. I'm doing it with six men and one woman instead of the usual cast size of twenty men and 8 women. I have cast Donna Lynne Champlin to play all the female roles. She will be brilliant. Donna and I have known each other since we were teenagers. In fact she was in the first show I ever directed Babes In Arms when I was 19 and she was 16. Since then we've only worked together on one reading and two summers ago we got to do The Mysteries of Harris Burdick up at Barrington Stage. This piece is going to be thrilling to work on with her. Besides the challenge of what she has to do as an actress in Shaw's piece, I'm also writing a new curtain raiser for the play for Donna Lynne. She's an inspiring actress and a great friend so I can't wait to get started.
