Anne Bogart

For years I have followed the career of Anne Bogart. Her work with the Viewpoints has had a tremendous impact on my work. I have used the Viewpoints in rehearsal for virtually every show I direct. I've had the pleasure and honor of meeting Anne several times over the years, and she has always been an inspiration, so when she emailed me to come and speak to her directing students at Columbia, I was very honored and moved. I went and spoke to the class today. They were all incredibly smart of course and very charming. As much as I sometimes think, "What do I possibly have to say of any importance," I always have such a great time when I do these kind of talk backs. Thanks to Anne again for inviting me and for having such an influence, whether she knows it or not, on my work and my career.

Short Order Stories Opens

Short Order Stories by Renee Calarco (yes my sister) opened last night in Virginia at Charter Theatre. We have a truly great cast: Lee Mikeska Gardner, Andy Brownstein, Chris Stezin, Kerri Seymour, Anne Veal, Michael Grew, and Timmy Ray James. Thanks to Keith Bridges and everyone at Charter for giving Renee and I this opportunity to work together. It was an fantastically easy, low stress, process and incredibly moving and fulfilling for me to work with my big Sis.
Here is a picture of the wonderful Anne Veal and Michael Grew.

And another picture of Anne with Andy Brownstein.

Page to Stage

Had a wonderful opportunity tonight to do a reading of my unfinished play Holding Pattern at the Kennedy Center for their Page to Stage Festival. I had an incredible cast (Nancy Robinette, Michael Grew, Sherri Edelen, Jenna Sokolowski, Chris Bloch, Stephen Schmidt, Michael Glenn, and Anne Veal.) It was incredibly helpful to hear the play and to get feedback from the audience. Thanks to Eric Schaeffer and Marcia Gardner from Signature Theatre for asking me to present the reading under Signature's banner.
